Chloe Moriondo brings her magical world in Paris on September 12

On one of the last summer nights in Paris, a new world was about to be unveiled at Les Étoiles as the “oyster tour” arrived. A blue, watery, bubbly, almost alien-like vibe completely transformed the space for one special night. After years of waiting, Chloe Moriondo finally brought her magic to France.

But first, it was their opener Yuneki who entered the room at 8 p.m. with her guitarist. With dreamy pop infused with R&B influences, she gave the audience a magical opening set. She performed tracks from her discography like “Baby Teeth” and “Without You” from her recent EP, as well as older songs like “Over Again” which she described as a “very, very depressing song.” The crowd loved it, lighting up the room with their phone flashes. She expressed her excitement to be here and cheered us with, “You’re the loviest crowd.”

After a short break, at exactly 9 p.m., the lights dimmed and the intro to Chloe’s oyster tour began. The room held its breath as underwater visuals filled the stage, paired with Chloe’s voice narrating: “Oh, welcome to your world, which is an oyster. I hope you enjoy your stay. There are dangerous urchins, lonely sea silence and (…).” I won’t spoil the full intro, but it completely pulled us into Chloe’s world, and it was mesmerizing. Then, after a wave of oceanic sounds, the opening notes of “abyss” — a bubbly, fun pop anthem from oyster — hit, and Chloe’s arrival lifted the entire room.

From that moment to the very last second, Chloe gave us an unforgettable show with unmatched energy. They jumped around, danced, interacted with the crowd like no one else, and even air-guitared during “hate it.” There wasn’t a dull moment. Chloe picked up their bass for “Bodybag,” her blue electric guitar for “Take Your Time” – asking the crowd to sing the “la la la” ad-libs in the chorus – and then introduced us to her pink electric guitar: “Everyone say hi to Kitty, it was time for you to meet her.”

Chloe has a gift for building a strong connection with her audience right from the start. Multiple times she got closer to the crowd, holding hands, pointing the mic at fans, and looking them in the eyes. She even said, “If you think I’m looking at you, I am. It’s my favorite part of playing small shows, even you guys in the back!” At one point she told us we were beautiful, and when a fan shouted, “No, you’re beautiful!” she giggled and added how much she loved hearing our “pretty little accent.”

Of course, there had to be a calmer moment with some slower songs. “We reached the inevitable, you guys, it’s gonna get sad for a second,” Chloe said with a smile. She also shared how grateful she feels to have such a kind and safe crowd, where she can be silly or miserable without fear. “I wanted to give you another thank you for allowing me to feel like I can perform these songs with all of me. I’m sorry if you relate to them, but also I love you and I’m very thankful to connect with you guys.”

She then performed a breathtaking trio: my personal favorite “shoreline,” which I had the chance to discuss with Chloe in the interview you can find here, followed by “use” and “pond,” which completely floored us. Luckily, she brought us back into lighter waters with “Manta Rays” which she explained was the very first song she ever wrote on guitar — and she was thrilled to play it live with us.

The night also came with surprises. Chloe covered “Liquid Smooth” by Mitski and then did something she hadn’t done since she was 16 or 17 — she grabbed her ukulele to sing “La Vie en Rose” by Édith Piaf. Longtime fans went wild, as Chloe’s 2018 YouTube cover of this song went viral and now has over 23 million views. It was a full-circle moment for all of us, and for Chloe herself. She laughed afterward: “Sorry for my accent, it may have become a little rusty,” but I don’t think anyone in the room cared one bit.

Eventually, she announced there were only two songs left. Smiling mischievously, she said, “Too bad there isn’t something after a show ends to play more songs…” before jumping into the title track “oyster” and then her newest single “girls with gills.” She disappeared into the dark as the crowd erupted.

But we weren’t ready to let go. After loud applause and fans chanting her name, Chloe and her band returned with full energy for two final songs we had all been waiting for. During “Fruity,” she grabbed a fan’s phone, filmed herself across the crowd, and screamed the lyrics “Waitin’, waitin,’ just to see your face” which felt like a love note directed straight at us. She closed the night with her most listened-to track ever, “I Want To Be With You,” bringing to an end what was truly an insane, unforgettable party in Chloe’s world.
