In the dance capital of the world, Travis Japan delivers a love letter to dance and to music

Travis Japan performing in New York City Hammerstein Ballroom

Travis Japan brought a serious performance to Hammerstein Ballroom on July 25 — an arena level performance. For nearly two straight hours, this seven-member J-pop group was singing, dancing, doing costume changes, and it felt like their energy levels did not let up for a second. They did not break a sweat. Their stamina? Wild. Their breath control? Even wilder. The mics were on, but no one would ever guess they’d been dancing that hard.

Visually, the show was fabulous. The lighting, the constant set and wardrobe changes — everything felt polished and elevated without losing their fun, playful edge. As someone who used to dance (and is still an avid dance lover), seeing a show this focused on the art of dance while maintaining their passion for music, especially with World of Dance performers featured, was pure bliss in my world. Every move hit, and I felt how much love and detail went into every number. The performances were tight, and meshed so many styles, from a stunning contemporary movement under soft light with confetti flying to clean hip-hop isolations in a more upbeat number. It was clear that everyone on stage loved what they were doing, and that feeling was contagious.

The crowd fed off that energy. From the opening number to the multiple encores, the ballroom was alive. Fans sang along, clapped, cheered, and never lost momentum. At one point, the group even sang happy birthday to a fan and took a group photo with the audience mid-show, which made the whole night feel even more personal and special. The crowd could feel the group’s utter gratitude for them.

Travis Japan put on a performance and an experience — not just a concert. The visuals and stamina were arena level and I would not be surprised if their next stop to perform in New York City was across the street at Madison Square Garden. They have the perfect mix of precision, charisma, and heart. They are not only artists, but athletes on stage.

Thanks for the beautiful photos and touching article;) I’m one of their fans from Japan. Their company was founded in 1962, and it’s been famous for not only singing and dancing also changing costumes so fast and showing up on the stage again. It’s really amazing and I always wonder how they do it. Travis Japan is known as the best dancers in the company , and most of their songs are really fast, but YES! Their mics are on!! And they even appear in dramas, comedy shows, movies, and radio, which I really think how they can make their stage so perfect all the time!
