“What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters” signals The Dare’s global takeover

What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters, the deluxe edition of The Dare’s critically acclaimed debut album, is out now via Republic Records.

Released in September 2024, What’s Wrong With New York? marked a bold debut for The Dare, quickly making waves with its infectious energy. The album includes his breakout single “Girls,” which has racked up over 59 million streams on Spotify, alongside fan favorites like “Perfume” and “Good Time.” The deluxe version adds three unreleased tracks from the original recording sessions, including “LCA,” his first-ever cover – a version of The Sound’s “I Can’t Escape Myself,” – and the newly unveiled “Cheeky.”

What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters arrives just as The Dare wraps a whirlwind run of headline-making performances, including explosive sets at Coachella and Primavera Sound, plus a completely sold-out seven-night residency at Brooklyn’s beloved Baby’s All Right — a milestone that cemented his status as one of New York’s most electric live acts. The past year has seen him everywhere, from walking the red carpet at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards alongside Charli XCX, to sitting front row at Paris Fashion Week, to stepping into the producer’s chair for “Stateside,” one of the standout tracks from PinkPantheress’ critically praised album Fancy That.

Now, The Dare is taking the momentum global. His summer schedule is packed with major festival slots at Lollapalooza, Reading, and Leeds, with more to be announced. Fresh off performing to a crowd of 4,000 in New York City, he’s also bringing his infamous party series “Freakquencies” back to its Brooklyn roots with upcoming nights at 3 Dollar Bill, Elsewhere, and Public Records. What started as an underground gathering in a grimy Manhattan basement has evolved into one of the city’s most sought-after dance parties, with recent guest DJs including Doss, Danny L Harle, Dylan Brady, and Kelly Lee Owens. With each event, Freakquencies continues to blur the lines between nightlife, performance art, and cultural moment — just like The Dare himself.
