Savannah-native Jonah Kagen is a rising star in the music industry. He released his debut album, Sunflowers and Leather, via Artista Records. This deeply personal album is an exploration of meaning, identity, and faith. Jonah wrote and produced it entirely while traveling in a converted Airstream trailer. With early praise from outlets like American Songwriter and Melodic Magazine, the project showcases Kagen’s intricate guitar work, honest lyrics, and an intimate yet sweeping voice.
After his massive single, “God Needs the Devil,” which hit No. 1 on Spotify’s “Best Pop Songs of 2024,” Jonah hopes for the same success with this debut album.
“Sunflowers and Leather is a snapshot of my mind at this point in my life. It’s an investigation of all the questions and existential wonders that live with me, and it’s a documentation of my search for meaning, purpose, identity, and faith.” – Jonah Kagen.
The album title is inspired by the duality of the human experience: sunflowers represent beauty and joy, while leather symbolizes struggle and grit. Kagen sees both as essential, a perspective best explained in his track “Matches.” This contrast runs throughout the record, with tracks like “The Reaper” and “Burn Me” grappling with mortality and inner conflicts, while others focus on love and connection.
Kagen’s journey is documented in the companion 16mm film “Sunflowers and Leather: The Field Guide.”
At just 25, Jonah has already established a strong impact on the industry. He is seen as one of music’s most compelling new voices. His journey shows resilience and a pursuit of authenticity. This led him to write and produce his debut album in a rebuilt Airstream trailer while traveling the American West. He now has over 500 million global streams and a dedicated following. His unique ability to channel heartbreak, faith, and isolation is clear in his powerful, stadium-ready anthem.
Vulnerable, fierce, and unmistakably human, Kagen’s music marks the arrival of a lasting talent.
