Black Polish, also known as Jayden Binnix, shared their new single “BONDAGE” with the world on July 30. The song explores the internal struggle of self-growth. They shared:
“I’m interested in the idea of being erotic while fully clothed. Now that I’m 20, I am willing to share that explicit side of me,” notes Black Polish. “Though bondage is usually seen as sexual, the intentions were to showcase the ‘negative’ parts of you clinging on harder when you try to push them away. The only way to free yourself from the battle is self-forgiveness.”

The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Gus Black (Phoebe Bridgers, Lizzy McAlpine, Foy Vance), who also directed the video for their single “BE WITH YOU,” released earlier this year. The video showcases them in an empty room with dark lights and a projector displaying multiple things such as numbers, lines, dots, etc. A genderless creature with long nails appears sometimes to ‘play’ with Black Polish and enhances the bondage part of the song. While the concept is simple, it complements the song effectively. Black Polish shared:
“This is how it feels to fight with yourself to break your habits. Don’t let evil win.” They add, “it’s fashion mixed with power and sexual energy wrapped with a designer bow.”
Black Polish is on the rise, with two singles released this year under BMG and their debut album Forest arriving last year. With nearly 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, they are clearly gaining momentum. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists like Fleetwood Mac, Nicki Minaj, Twenty One Pilots, and Mitski, Black Polish offers a unique lens through which to interpret the world. Their artistry is deeply tied to their identity as part of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, often addressing issues such as hatred toward marginalized groups, mental health awareness, and personal experiences.
