On July 15, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened up to the public the new collection of artifacts for the legendary Long After Dark album and tour for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. This exhibit focuses on the Long After Dark album that came out in 1982, and to satisfy fans’ hearts with this album, they went out on a tour in 1983, playing 63 shows in the United States. This display offers fans a close-up look at rare things from the album/tour.
Now, all these years later, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wants fans to see behind the scenes of the Long After Dark album and tour. What is actually inside this exhibit? Let me tell ya – some pretty amazing things. When making the album, Tom Petty had his beautiful guitar, which was also featured in the music video for “You Got Lucky.” Well, you can see it in this exhibit now! Of course, when writing a song or album, you will also have handwritten lyrics and production notes in this exhibit. There are also backstage passes, ticket stubs, and cassette tapes for one of the shows on this tour. Last but not least, the exhibit features the iconic script for the “You Got Lucky” music video.
If you want to see this exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they not only have this amazing exhibit, but they also have some memorabilia for Bon Jovi, Revolutionary Women in Music, SNL, and more on display. I don’t want to spoil it all for you; You will just have to plan a trip and go see it yourself.
