Colorful hair and female fronted? Are you that surprised I was snagging a ticket to catch this sold-out show at my favorite venue? I practically live at the X-Ray Arcade these days and you cannot convince me otherwise. This past Wednesday, it was a COMPLETELY SOLD-OUT show for Scowl. Fans were packing in from the start and the room only continued to fill in as the night continued on.
The first band to take the stage was Milwaukee’s very own, Mizzy. People were still arriving during their set as it was a week night and most people don’t usually finish work that early, so I imagine the rest were on their way to the venue. They got the room warmed up and ready for the rest of the night’s show. Up next was another local band, Big Laugh. They were high-energy and it was clear a number of attendees were there for their set. The mosh pit and stage divers began to start rolling.
The final opener to take the stage was Glixen. Glixen was mesmerizing to the ear and eye as the vocalist moved gracefully about the stage singing. The lights set the mood for the eloquent vibe that was present and the crowd was in awe.

Finally, it was time. The lights turned off. Stage left, the side door was propped open by JJ Kaiser, who held it as Scowl’s vocalist, Kat Moss, came running in and onto the stage. She kicked off the show with high energetic kicks, lots of two-stepping, and encouraged the crowd to rage on with her. I was too focused on taking photos that, by the time my three songs were finished, I didn’t realize how cramped it had gotten from the very large mosh pit that was on fire about two rows behind me. The X-Ray does not have a photo pit, so I secured myself a spot right against the stage just before Scowl started. After squeezing out quickly during the brief break between songs to escape getting trapped by the moshers, the momentum did not die down at all. Stage divers and crowd surfers began to emerge and it was definitely a good night at the X-Ray.
The “Are We All Angels Tour” is over, but that’s okay because Scowl has some exciting shows coming up. Follow them on social media so you can stay up to date on where you can find their next show!
