La Cigale came alive on April 5 with THÉA‘s sold-out show, a night full of sweat and surprises that left fans happier than ever.
The hyper-pop rising star released her first album, MEMENTO, in 2023 on streaming platforms. But she actually began with covers and self-produced original songs back in 2019 on social media. Since then, her fandom has only grown stronger. With 120,000 monthly listeners on Spotify only, they’re selling out her shows almost instantly. After packed concerts at La Boule Noire and La Maroquinerie in 2024, she returned this time to La Cigale, the nearly 2,000-capacity venue, in Paris.
The most dedicated fans arrived as early as 9 a.m. to secure a spot in the front row. Some brought signs, one reading, “THÉA and Changeline, my queens.” The crowd was mostly young queer adults, which comes as no surprise given that both THÉA and her opener, Changeline are proudly out queer trans women. Even before the show began, the energy was electric. The crowd erupted into leftist protest chants like “ACAB,” “Free Free Palestine,” and “Everyone hates cops.”
The show officially kicked off at 7:45 p.m. with Martin Dust, who hosted and introduced the opener: Changeline. To no one’s surprise—except maybe her own—Changeline was already beloved by the entire crowd.
With her unique blend of alternative punk-rap, Changeline set the tone for the night: we were going to jump. She performed tracks from her discography, including “VOICES.IN.MY.PHONE,” “LASER.FULLY.CHARGED,” and even her latest single “UP.IN.THE.BAY.”
The crowd was literally on fire—mosh pits broke out almost immediately. They screamed, danced, sang… I’ve truly never seen such a wild crowd for an opener. Changeline mostly spoke in French while singing in English, but she took a sweet moment to address her American girlfriend in the audience in English, melting everyone’s hearts.
Accompanying Changeline was her friend Axel.
Changeline absolutely nailed her role as an opener. She got the crowd amped up and ready for what was coming next.
Speaking of THÉA, she hit the stage just before 8 p.m., kicking things off with her iconic single “CAVALE! CAVALE!” from her latest EP COMÈTE, released just last month. She was joined by ADlib on guitar and Lyldrum on drums.
THÉA had warned us before the show: This was going to be a party—and it was. She performed every track from COMÈTE, but also older fan favorites like “Guillotine” and “À la mort.” But that wasn’t all, she had a few surprises up her sleeve.
For her fifth song, she brought out her first guest, Bromaz. More than just a close friend, Bromaz is also a talented artist who previously collaborated with THÉA on “TEEN MOVIE” and “Crash Crash.” She even opened for THÉA at La Maroquinerie last December. It felt like a beautiful full-circle moment for both of them and for the fans.
THÉA kept the energy high with a setlist full of hyperpop bangers, fast tempos, and alt-punk vibes, but she also knows how to pace a show. She gave us moments to breathe with tracks like “ANXIOLYTIQUES,”—one of my personal favorites— “LHPTL,” and “JUSTE AMIS,” the latter two starting with a soft ukulele intro before bursting into their full versions. These calmer moments gave the crowd just enough rest before diving right back into chaos. Honestly, I lost count of how many mosh pits erupted throughout the night.
At one point, THÉA paused to give a heartfelt speech about how tough life can be for queer people right now, and how important, and beautiful, this night was for her. It was emotional, grounding, and deeply appreciated.
Then came another surprise. She began to cover one of her favorite songs, “Le chemin” by the legendary French band Kyo. And what better way to sing it than with Kyo’s lead singer himself, Benoît Poher? If you’re a THÉA fan, you already know how much she loves and admires Kyo. This moment was pure magic, a true full-circle dream come true.
She wrapped up her main set with “Echo” and “JUSTE AMIS.”
You might’ve thought the surprises were over—but of course, she came back for an encore. And not alone. She brought everyone back on stage: Changeline, Axel, Bromaz, and Benoît Poher. But also two new guests: Rok.wav and Dudu.wav, her collaborators on the song “PTSMR,” which they performed together. During that track, THÉA even crowd-surfed like a true rockstar.
Finally, she ended the night with “QUI FERA TAIRE LES KIDS FUCKED UP??” from her latest EP. The crowd erupted in a long, well-deserved standing ovation.
This show will stay with me forever. Between THÉA’s boundless energy, the ecstatic crowd, the iconic venue, and the overall vibe… Everything came together to make this night unforgettable.
