It’s been five years since we’ve seen Marianas Trench in Pittsburgh. The long wait was definitely worth it. Marianas Trench performed at the Roxian Theatre on October 3.
Before we dive into the amazing performances of the night, I want to throw out a little fact. Some people may see October 3 as just another day, while others will see it as Mean Girls day. But, October 3 is also Marianas Trench day. The band released their debut, full-length album, Fix Me, on October 3, 2006.
The night started with an energetic set from PIAO. The Chinese-Canadian Pop singer brought a little bit of everything to the stage. She performed energetic songs like “Neopet” and “flip phone” while sprinkling in heartfelt songs like “pagingbubu.”
If you haven’t seen her live, I would definitely recommend it. Her performance sent energy through the crowd almost immediately. You can check out her music here.
The second act of the night, fellow Trencher, Cassadee Pope. You may recognize the pop/country star from the band Hey Monday. She released an album and two EPs with the band before embarking on her solo journey. Pope performed fan favorites including “Bad Decisions” and “Homecoming.” Much like PIAO, Cassadee had no issue getting the crowd excited for the main act of the night.
The night ended with a powerful and energetic performance from Marianas Trench. They played a mix of new songs and beloved favorites. The songs from their new album included “Lightning and Thunder,” “I’m Not Getting Better,” “Haven,” and more. If you haven’t listened to their new album yet, you can check it out here. They also played songs from later albums, which were the ones I was most excited to see live. These songs included “Desperate Measures,” “Here’s To The Zeros,” “Haven’t Had Enough,” and much more.
Whether they were new fans, or long time Trenchers, everyone was screaming lyrics from start to finish. From outfit changes to lead singer Joshua Ramsey joining fans in the crowd, it was truly a beautiful experience.
