DED, known for their gritty fusion of nü metal, hardcore, and punk, have made a thunderous return with their new single “Rockstar.” This track marks the band’s first major release since their 2021 album School of Thought, and it takes aim at the superficiality of the rock star lifestyle. With Joe Cotela’s powerful, guttural vocals and a hard-hitting industrial sound, “Rockstar” serves as an anti-rockstar anthem that celebrates authenticity over vanity.
Speaking about the new song, Cotela emphasizes its rejection of insincere attitudes in the music world: “I’m personally drawn to genuine and authentic music created by genuine and authentic people,” he explains. Cotela credits his bandmates for delivering some of their heaviest material yet, giving him the perfect foundation to channel his frustrations and pride in DED’s unfiltered direction.
DED’s return is further solidified by their recent signing with indie label UNFD, home to heavy hitters like ERRA and Crossfaith. This new partnership marks an exciting new chapter for the Phoenix-based band.
In support of “Rockstar,” DED is hitting the road this fall with a packed tour schedule, kicking off in California and making stops across the U.S. Highlights include performances in Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, and Austin, culminating with a major appearance on the 2025 Shiprocked Cruise.
