On November 18, the legendary Alhambra venue in Paris welcomed American artist Daniel Seavey. A former member of Why Don’t We, the boy band that marked an entire generation, Seavey is now back as a solo artist with a show of rare sincerity—and what a pleasure it was to discover him in such an intimate venue.
What strikes you right away is the breadth of his talent. Daniel Seavey is, above all, an outstanding musician. A true multi-instrumentalist, he moves with disconcerting ease from bass to drums, from electric cello to guitar. It’s an impressive display that gives his concert a unique dynamic.
Daniel offered a generous show with around twenty songs, starting the show with songs like “Waves,” “Blondes,” and “Second Wind” from his very first album.
The setlist featured his full repertoire, including songs already well-known to the public thanks to social media — most notably, the breakout hit “Sleeping With the Lights On.” He also revisited several tracks from his 2023 EP, Dancing in the Dark, delivering heartfelt performances of “Fall Into You,” “Nothing Compares to You,” “Leave Me Alone,” and more.
One of the most memorable moments of the show is the improvisation he offers each night: alone on stage, he creates a song using each of his instruments in turn — a suspended moment, as fascinating as it is unexpected, which highlights his raw creativity.
Throughout the concert, Daniel played songs from his repertoire, oscillating between deep emotions and catchy tunes. On this day in Paris, “Creep” was the chosen one, along with “Take me To Church!” Two memorable songs known to all, especially for their impressive musicality.
But beyond the musical performance, it was his closeness to the French audience that made all the difference. Funny, accessible, and deeply human, he interacted with the audience and gave the impression of being there to share, not just to perform.
He even kept a promise he made earlier in the day during the meet and greet: to invite a fan to sing the last song of the concert with him. It was a touching moment, symbolic of his sincere relationship with those who have followed him for years.
He also offered a touching nod to his artistic journey by performing “Fallin,” a track from his former band — a subtle yet meaningful reminder of the path that led him to his solo career.
I left genuinely impressed; the performance was bursting with energy, heart, and authenticity. It was one of those rare moments where the connection between the artist and the audience felt truly electric.
It must be said that his French audience was full of energy, dedication, and was very funny. I’ll let you see for yourself.
