Last Saturday night, Waterparks took the stage at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey, and the energy in the venue was already running high before the band even appeared. Fans were packed in early, talking through possible setlist surprises and trying to guess which deep cuts or new tracks might show up. You could feel everyone getting more restless as the minutes passed.

When the lights finally went down, and Waterparks walked out, the reaction was immediate. They opened with a fan-favorite song, “Blonde,” and the room went straight into full-volume chaos in the best way. Crowd surfers were already moving by the first chorus, and the band wasted zero time pulling everyone into the moment. It was a strong, confident opener, exactly the kind of start they’re known for.

The band’s newer songs, including “RED GUITAR” and “IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL,” blended seamlessly into the set. Lead singer Awsten Knight’s stage presence added a heavy impact on how the crowd interpreted the lyrics. The crowd wanted to match his energy, so every line got more intense. Even though these tracks have only been around for a short time, the crowd shouted the lyrics like they’d been part of the catalog for years. It’s always interesting to see which newer songs instantly click live, and these definitely did.

When they played the newest release, “ANY MINUTE NOW,” the vibe in the room shifted in an extremely noticeable way. Toward the back of the pit, some people formed a circle and danced. Behind them, others linked arms and swayed together. Most of them were complete strangers to each other, but the moment felt genuinely shared throughout the crowd. It was a sight that was surreal to see; all of these people were brought together by the very band standing on that stage. Every time I see Waterparks, I end up thinking the same thing: their live shows have a unique kind of energy that’s hard to find anywhere else. There’s something about the way they perform that makes the room feel connected, no matter who’s standing next to you. I hope that people get to experience the magic of a Waterparks show once in their lives because it is truly incomparable to any show out there.
