After a big awaited venue upgrade, Arthur Hill performed at a sold out Manchester Academy to a crowd of 2,600 people. For those who may not be familiar with Arthur, he is a YouTuber turned musician, officially releasing music onto Spotify since 2022 with his debut song “Tiny Room.”
As the lights go out, a pre-recorded conversation is played to the crowd of people, a conversation between Arthur and his manager, discussing whether or not Arthur can walk out to “Thunderstruck” by ACDC. It ends with Arthur encouraging the crowd to chant “Arthur” instead of “Thunder” right as it fades into the song, the lights start matching the beats and the crowd do just that.
The show starts with the song “She’s So Handsome,” the latest single and opening song off of his new EP Missed Again, warming the crowd up before getting into some more known songs. Arthur dedicated his song “Iced Coffee” to Rodds – James Marriott and WillNE‘s coffee brand – receiving a massive cheer from the crowd due to the huge overlap in fandoms.
After a handful of other songs ranging from different releases all throughout his career, it was time for the cover of the night. Every show, Arthur choses a different song to cover live, Manchester being very lucky in getting “Night Changes” by One Direction. Immediately after this, Arthur starts talking about how he wishes the set was longer so he is able to play more songs for the eager crowds, solving this issue in quite a smart way. I really enjoyed this part of the show, as Arthur and the band played a mash-up of five songs as one, figuring out a way to put them together to make them sound very interesting – honestly a great concept!
The rest of the set had a great vibe, him dedicating “Lily” to one of the many people named Lily in the crowd, following it with “Bride and Gloom” – one of my favourite songs of his! He ended the main part of his set with his hit song “Hey Arthur!,” getting the crowd involved with the intro and everyone LOVED it, definitely one not to miss live!!
A short encore, only consisting of two songs, finished off the night. “Dead in the Disco” and definitely a fan favourite “Appetite” brought the end to an absolutely brilliant show. It was an incredibly fun night, Arthur Hill being very talented and putting together a great set for absolutely everyone in the audience to enjoy!
If you want to catch Arthur on tour, luckily you can! He is finishing off his U.K. tour, performing at Brighton, Bristol, and London this week, before doing a brief Europe tour from the 29 of November to the 5 of December. During January, he will be playing in Australia and New Zealand, finishing the “Stella Artour” off in the U.S. throughout February and March!
