Role Model in Paris on November 14 for the first of two unforgettable shows

On November 14, Role Model brought his “No Place Like Tour (The Longest Goodbye)” back to Le Trianon for two back-to-back shows, closing this second round of Europe and U.K. touring for his latest album.

By 7 p.m., the room was already packed and buzzing with excitement. I knew we were in for a loud show just by how people screamed the songs from the pre-show playlist, with Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Lorde playing through the speakers.

Chloe Slater, the U.K. singer songwriter, took the stage first, bringing her bubbly energy to the crowd. Nothing hits more than when the crowd responds positively to the opener, and that was definitely the case that night. It was actually crazy how many people knew her songs. Not just the barricade, even those in the back and in the nosebleeds were singing her tracks at the top of their lungs. She knew how to keep the show moving, from playing electric guitar to jumping around, asking the crowd to scream before her song “Price of Fun,” performing a new release about the U.K. funding of the genocide in Palestine, and even doing a cartwheel on stage. She had a few tricks up her sleeves. It was the perfect opening for Tucker.

At 9 p.m., the lights went off and the fans screamed in excitement as Role Model arrived on stage, opening with a killer trio: “Writing’s on the Wall,” “Look at That Woman,” and “Scumbag,” all played on acoustic guitar. He greeted the crowd and added that he could not think of a hotter place to finish this tour.

The whole show was perfectly curated, mixing energetic and slower songs, with fifteen out of the seventeen songs from Kansas (The Longest Goodbye), along with his cover of “Somebody Else” by The 1975, and three older tracks— “a little more time,” “that’s just how it goes,” and “blind”— which made the longtime fans very happy.

As expected, the crowd was wild. The pit trembled every time, and I have truly never experienced a crowd singing so loudly. From the back, you could barely hear him, even in this small venue. Between almost every song, if there was the tiniest delay while Tucker was retuning his guitar, a chant would start. Fans even sang “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, which has become a long-running reference in his fandom.

He thanked everyone for being there, saying he loved the energy of Paris crowds, and started laughing when he noticed a girl filming with her front iPad camera. Fans came prepared, with signs held up all throughout the show. From “Can I be Sally?” to “Lesbians for Tuck,” to a French flag with “Daddy’s Home” written on it, there were plenty of standouts. My personal favorite was “Saw you more in the past two weeks than my dad in 10 years” from a fan at the barricade.

Before playing “Something, Somehow, Someday,” Role Model took the mic to explain that he loves the song, but can never remember the lyrics, so he wrote them down. “My brain is petite… I’m gonna read it like it’s a story from my book, and the story is about two people who were very different in many ways, but I used to believe they were meant to be something, somehow, someday.” This moment added an even softer layer to the song.

Tucker ended the show with two fan favorites, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” where he invited a fan on stage during the bridge, and “Deeply Still in Love.” Leaving Le Trianon that night, it was clear why this tour has meant so much to fans. Paris closed this chapter of The Longest Goodbye with heart, volume, and a crowd that gave everything back to him, making the final stop feel like a celebration between an artist and the people who have grown with him. We cannot wait to see what the next chapter will be.
