The GRAMMY Museum hosted a special screening on October 20 of Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers in celebration of his 75th birthday.
Since it is the 30th anniversary of Wildflowers, the screening featured a conversation moderated by SiriusXM’s Mark Felsot with people close to Tom who were present for the album’s creation: Producer George Drakoulias, heartbreaker Benmont Tench, engineer Jim Scott, and daughter Adria Petty, as well as the film’s director Mary Wharton.
The film is now available for streaming on Peacock and Blu-ray disc.
For Tom’s treasured fans celebrating these special milestones at home, the Petty family is sharing a touching never-before-seen performance of “Don’t Fade on Me,” which was filmed during rehearsals for the 1995 “Dogs With Wings” tour. The video is included in an accession of recently discovered Wildflowers tour rehearsals, including “You Wreck Me” and “Crawling Back to You,” and is the latest release made available for free through the band’s official fan club, Tom Petty Nation.
In two prime offerings, audiophiles can dig deeper into Tom Petty’s Rick Rubin-produced masterpiece by exploring the recently released limited edition One-Step vinyl, cut directly from the original master tapes offering remarkable sound quality.
Book enthusiasts can also get a glimpse of artifacts and access the inside process of recording in a custom-made commemorative book. Wildflowers will arrive later this fall, taking readers inside the studio, the songwriting process, and the creative mind of Tom Petty at the pinnacle of his powers.
