Chet Faker is back, and he’s not just revisiting old ground. As usual, he decided evolution would be more fun. The Australian singer, songwriter, and producer has announced A Love for Strangers, a new full length album arriving February 13, 2026, through BMG.
The project marks a return to the spirit of exploration that first put him on the map. It’s described as a rediscovery, the kind of album that feels like an artist stepping back into himself after years of experimentation. Along with the announcement, Faker released the lead single, “This Time for Real,” a shimmering track that feels both familiar and fresh, full of warmth, grit, and self awareness.
“This Time for Real” is classic Chet Faker, soulful and playful all at once. Lyrically, it nods to the weight of expectation that comes with success, but it’s delivered with a wink – a reminder that even after billions of streams and global acclaim, Faker is still enjoying the ride.
The single’s cinematic video, directed by Josh Wehle, captures him cruising the Hudson River on a jet ski with the New York City skyline glinting in the background, a perfect visual metaphor for an artist steering his own course.
Over the past decade, Chet Faker, a.k.a. Nick Murphy, has proven he’s anything but static. From his breakout Thinking in Textures EP to the acclaimed debut Built on Glass and the more introspective Hotel Surrender, Faker’s sound has constantly evolved while maintaining that distinctive blend of soul, synth, and human vulnerability.
His collaborations with artists like Flume and Marcus Marr have pushed his sound into new territory, and now A Love for Strangers looks set to carry that evolution forward.
