Magdalena Bay unveils new tracks “Human Happens” and “Paint Me a Picture”

Magdalena Bay has unveiled two more songs recently, “Human Happens” and “Paint Me a Picture,” after sharing two other new songs last month. “Here’s another pair of songs that complement each other,” says the band. “Different than the last, different than the next.” This release follows that of “Second Sleep,” which debuted with an official video that was directed by Amalia Irons, and “Star Eyes,” which is the spiritual successor of their most recent album, Imaginal Disk. That release marks the first sign of new music since the band’s standout sophomore album, and has received praise from Stereogum, Pitchfork, The Fader, and more.

This year, the band embarked on the “Imaginal Mystery Tour,” which took them across the globe, including the Portola Music Festival, Austin City Limits, and two iconic shows in Los Angeles. They’ll continue shows at the III Points Music Festival, and venues across the country, including Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy, Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway, and more. There are still a few more dates left on tour, so follow the link and get your tickets here

Imaginal Disk was fully written and produced by Magdalena Bay’s own Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, and is widely known as one of the best and most adored albums of 2025. Personally, this album has played a huge part in the soundtrack of my last year, and I will forever be kicking myself for missing their show in Madison, Wisconsin, this past spring. The record was featured on many Best of 2024 lists, including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Vulture, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Vogue, and Paste Magazine, which named the single “Death & Romance” the No. 1 song of the year. Imaginal Disk saw Magdalena Bay sell out every date of their North American and European/U.K. headline tours.

To celebrate the LP’s one year anniversary, the band teased the release of the highly anticipated album movie, directed by Amanda Kramer and written and edited by Tenenbaum and Lewin. The film will elaborate on the world built in Imaginal Disk, and reveal elements of the story in the videos for “Death & Romance,” “Image,” and “That’s My Floor,” as well as in their performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and on the road on the “Imaginal Mystery Tour.” More information on the film is bound to come out soon.

Magdalena Bay is the Los Angeles by way of Miami duo consisting of Mica Tenenbaum (vocals, producer, songwriter) and Matthew Lewin (producer, songwriter). The pair met at an after-school music program in Miami, where they’re from. They bonded over shared musical influences and eventually started a prog rock band called Tabula Rasa. That band parted ways, but the duo crossed paths once more in college and reunited with the goal to make pop music that fuses retro vibes and futuristic sounds. With that, they began to record, write, and perform music under the name of Magdalena Bay. They released a series of EPs leading up to the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Mercurial World in 2021. This launched them into multiple headline tours and playing numerous music festivals, including Coachella and Lollapalooza. They’ve toured with names such as Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Caroline Polacheck, and Flume, and have collaborated with Grimes, Lil Yachty, JIHYO, Blu DeTiger, and more. The new music has kept fans excited through the Imaginal Disk era and beyond.
