Vevo recently released a new installment from its “Live from Vevo Studios” series, featuring Finn Wolfhard performing “Everytown There’s a Darling” from his debut solo album, Happy Birthday (via AWAL).
The “Live from Vevo Studios” sessions are all about showcasing artists doing what they do best: performing. They use a combination of cinematic lighting, quality sound, and an intimate setting that allows musicians to connect closely with their audience. The series has hosted both emerging and established artists, giving each one space to explore their sound through a live setting.
Wolfhard’s Happy Birthday arrived in early summer, making this his first solo project after many years of releasing music with his bands Calpurnia and The Aubreys. The album’s nine tracks offer a peek into his personal world, reflecting on themes of identity, anxiety, nostalgia, childhood, and loneliness.
The record began as a creative challenge to himself: write 50 songs by the end of 2022. “I ended up writing a lot of terrible stuff,” Wolfhard admitted, “but a few of those songs I was really proud of went to The Aubreys. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I didn’t know with which songs.”
In a recent interview with Under the Radar, Wolfhard shared how music gives him a sense of freedom that acting doesn’t always allow: “Music for me has always been something that I can control. And while I’m really grateful for acting and for a long time, it really provided me that peace, it’s just a different thing now that I’m an adult and that it’s a career. I still enjoy it a lot, but when I am by myself and get to play guitar and write a song, it’s a different kind of feeling I’m after.”
