All Time Low’s Phoenix show leaves “Everyone Talking”

On the heels of When We Were Young weekend, All Time Low brought their Everyone’s Talking tour through Phoenix, AZ on October 23rd. The tour celebrates the release of the band’s newest record, Everyone’s Talking, released October 17th, and features an iconic lineup, including bands Mayday Parade, The Cab, and The Paradox.

Pop-punk outfit The Paradox, from Atlanta, GA, kicked things off for the evening, treating the audience to a high-energy set of tracks like “Do It Again,” “Leave My Room,” and “Ms. Lauren.” They also previewed an unreleased song, “It’s Over,” which frontman Eric Dangerfield described as a song about his cheating ex. Their tunes and onstage banter gave modern day Blink-182 vibes and were well received by the audience. The Paradox is relatively new to the scene, having released their first single only a year ago. They dropped their debut EP, NSFW, in September, and have amassed nearly 2 million followers between Instagram and TikTok alone. The future looks bright for this pop-punk quartet. The Paradox is on tour with All Time Low through the end of November. Be sure to arrive early to catch their set!

After a nearly decade long hiatus, The Cab is officially back! The Las Vegas pop rockers wowed the crowd with their stage presence, ability to connect, and their catchy melodies. Frontman Alex DeLeon has an impressive set of pipes reminiscent of the boy bands from the early aughts which lends well to their genre bending style. Fans have patiently waited new music since they began teasing their return in 2019, and in September, they finally delivered, dropping a 4-track EP titled Road to Reign: A Prelude, their first release since 2014. Their setlist featured one track from the new EP, “Stay This Way Forever,” while the rest of the setlist featured tracks from their debut and sophomore albums Whisper War and and Symphony Soldier, including “One of THOSE Nights,” “Bounce,” and “Bad.” They ended their set with fan favorite “Angel With a Shotgun,” which had fans belting out the lyrics in unison, and left them buzzing with excitement. As if they had not already had enough excitement, guitarist and keyboardist Alex Marshall surprised fans in the pit by making his way down to the barricade to pose for selfies and sign some autographs, a testament to the band’s appreciation and genuine care for their fans. There is no doubt that fans are thrilled with The Cab’s return! The band has already alluded to the release of more new music in the upcoming year, and we cannot wait to see what’s in store!

Mayday Parade kept the night going, making their return to the Arizona stage only 5 months after their last visit. The band has had a busy year having released the first two of three installments of a three part album, with Sweet dropping in April, and Sad dropping just this month. Following the release of Sweet and to commemorate 20 years of being a band, Mayday Parade hit the road, taking North American fans on a journey through all of their eras through June, before joining forces with Jack’s Mannequin and The Home Team to bring Three Cheers for 20 Years to fans Down Under in September. Their set was mostly one of nostalgia, focusing heavily on favorites from A Lesson In Romantics; however, they did throw in one song from each of their new albums, opening with “Under My Sweater” from their newest release, Sad, and including “By The Way” from Sweet, my personal favorite of the new releases. Mid set, frontman Derek Sanders took a moment to address the crowd, noting that because we are all constantly being bombarded by the bad things happening in the world, he wanted to make sure to share some of the good things that are happening. He went on to share that in addition to the band celebrating their 20th anniversary, this was his first ever tour played wearing a wedding ring as he had just gotten married a few weeks prior. The audience cheered in support before they moved into a performance of “Piece of Your Heart.” The band knows how to put on a show and this night was no different. The energy in the room never dipped for a second, with the band giving it their all and the fans dancing and singing along to every word. This may have been an All Time Low show, but fans were equally as happy to have Mayday Parade sharing that stage. They ended their set with “Jamie All Over,” a fitting finale that handed the night off perfectly to the evening’s main act. The third installment of Mayday Parade’s album is set to release sometime next year and we can’t wait!

The lights dimmed and fans watched as a video introducing the members of the band, as well as the tour lineup, played on the screen, ending with an introduction of the night’s host, All Time Low frontman Alex Gaskarth. Gaskarth took the stage solo for an acoustic moment, opening the night with “[cold open],” the intro track from their Everyone’s Talking album released only a few days prior. Fans went wild as the rest of the band stormed the stage, launching into another new track, “Oh No!” Though it had been out for less than a week, the crowd was already singing along word for word. Guitarist Jack Barakat and Bassist Zack Merrick leapt from surfaces, swinging their guitars and galavanting around the stage, putting on a high energy spectacle that had the room on their feet from start to finish. The Phoenix show marked their largest headlining date in Arizona ever, as well as their ninth consecutive show, including massive sets on Fremont Street and at both days of When We Were Young, but you would never have guessed it from the effortless energy they put forth onstage. Barakat commented on the quality of Gaskarth’s voice, “You sound great! Your voice is back, baby!,” and the audience could not agree more. Just prior to their performances in Las Vegas, the band had to abruptly cut their show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre short due to concerns that Gaskarth could do permanent damage to his voice if he were to continue to push through. They subsequently were forced to cancel their next two shows, leaving fans concerned for the fate of their performances at When We Were Young, as well as for the rest of the tour. Gaskarth was ultimately cleared to safely perform, and the band was able celebrate their album release to kick off When We Were Young weekend with a legendary free show on Fremont Street.

As the evening progressed, fans were treated to songs from across every era of All Time Low, including tracks from the new album, as well as favorites like “Weightless,” “Time-Bomb,” and “Missing You,” which they dedicated to all those who could not be there that night. The band left the stage and a message of “be right back” illuminated the screen. They returned, jumping immediately into a new track, “Butterflies,” followed by “Dirty Laundry” and “Sleepwalking.” Gaskarth made many requests of the audience that evening, including dancing, bouncing, and ignoring the “fear of verticality” by climbing on to the shoulders of friends and loved ones. With each request, the audience complied, fully immersing themselves in the music. The set ended with “Monsters,” with the band returning for a three song encore and perhaps the most memorable moment of the evening. As they prepared to close out the night with “Dear Maria, Count Me In,” Gaskarth noted a fan with a special sign in the pit, and invited the fan up to the stage. That fan, accompanied by his girlfriend, made his way to the stage where he would propose (she said yes!), a moment that couple, the band, and everyone in attendance are sure to never forget!  The crowd erupted in cheers as the proposal unfolded, and the energy didn’t drop for a second as the band launched into the final notes of “Dear Maria, Count Me In.” Between fan-favorite anthems and tracks from their new album, the night perfectly blended nostalgia with a celebration of the band’s newest work, giving longtime fans a chance to relive the songs that defined their youth while embracing the next chapter of All Time Low.

The Everyone’s Talking tour continues across the US through November 29 when they will wrap things up with a show in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The lineup features The Cab through November 3rd when Four Year Strong takes over as support. This was a must-see show from with all acts putting on an unforgettable performance.
