Featuring members of Hail The Sun, Sufferer, and slenderbodies, MURALS announces debut live appearance at Kill Iconic Fest and upcoming self-titled EP via Equal Vision Records.
Legendary independent label Equal Vision Records and progressive post-hardcore band MURALS proudly present “tough,” the latest single from the group’s forthcoming self-titled debut EP, out Friday, November 14. The seven-song release marks the arrival of a bold new project from three dynamic musicians: Shane Gann (guitar/vocals), Blake Dahlinger (drums), and Tony Bautista (bass/vocals). The trio brings together an impressive pedigree, with members known for their work in Hail The Sun, Sufferer, and slenderbodies.
Described by Under The Radar as “crushingly heavy riffs, bruising drums, and enough irrepressible energy to open up a pit,” and spotlighted by Guitar World as an “Editor’s Pick,” “tough” highlights the band’s ability to fuse emotional intensity with technical precision.
Bassist and vocalist Tony Bautista explained the track’s meaning: “‘tough’ is about resilience and how the relatability of the human experience is found in each of us having our own individual struggles. Sometimes I win, sometimes I fail. Sometimes I care enough to open up. It’s all about the journey, not the destination. We’re the same in different places.”
The official music video for “tough” is now streaming via Under The Radar and on YouTube.
MURALS formed organically from the creative partnership between Gann and Dahlinger, who first collaborated on Sufferer — a concept album exploring a day in the life with anxiety and depression. Bautista joined as a touring member for that project, later becoming a permanent part of MURALS. During the pandemic, the trio found new purpose and direction under the MURALS name, focusing on themes of mental health, social awareness, and human connection.
The band’s debut single, “they’re there,” directed by Alex Bemis, addresses the global tragedies unfolding in real time and the emotional toll of witnessing violence and injustice. “‘they’re there’ centers around the unimaginable horrors being broadcast globally in real time, and the estranged survivor’s guilt that coincides,” the band shared.
MURALS will make their live debut this Sunday, October 5, at Kill Iconic Fest Texas in San Antonio, performing alongside Hail The Sun, Between The Buried and Me, Head Automatica, Delta Sleep, and more. Additional live dates will be announced soon.
