The band’s forthcoming fourth studio album, Viribus Unitis, arrives November 14, 2025, via Napalm Records — a powerful chronicle of unity, survival, and the human cost of war.
Ukrainian death metal force 1914 has released their new single, “1914 (The Siege of Przemy?l),” ahead of their highly anticipated fourth studio album Viribus Unitis, out November 14, 2025, via Napalm Records. The track captures the brutality and despair of one of World War I’s longest sieges, where over 130,000 Austro-Hungarian soldiers faced starvation, disease, and defeat within the fortress city of Przemy?l. With thundering doom riffs and haunting historical recordings, 1914 immerses listeners in the devastating realities of war.
Speaking about the song, Gefreiter Ditmar Kumarberg of k.u.k. Galizisches IR Nr.15 shared vivid imagery of the battle’s horror: “Trapped behind fortress walls… horses, dogs, even rats became rations… One of the greatest capitulations of the war.”
With Viribus Unitis – Latin for “With United Forces” – 1914 continues their exploration of history through sound, tracing the story of a Ukrainian soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army from 1914 to 1919. The album balances themes of camaraderie, endurance, and the psychological toll of battle, emphasizing the idea that survival and strength come through unity.
1914 commented: “Viribus Unitis is about shared strength and the idea that true power lies in unity. Alone, one may fall – together, we can prevail and achieve our goals: defeat the enemy, escape captivity, survive, and return to your family.”
Musically, the band’s signature blend of blackened death metal, doom, and atmospheric war soundscapes expands with melodic leads, orchestral layers, and emotional depth. The album also features guest appearances from Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride), Christopher Scott (Precious Death), and Jerome Reuter (Rome).
