On an unseasonably warm Saturday in Boston, Chance the Rapper brought his “And We Back Tour” to MGM Music Hall, a show that felt both intimate and introspective. The 5,000-capacity venue slowly filled as fans trickled in, but by the time Chance hit the stage around 9:30 p.m., the room was packed. Even Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum made an appearance near the back.
Opener Adamn Killa kept the crowd’s attention through sheer chaos: backflips, a bubble machine, and a full crew turning the stage into a circus. DJ Oreo handled pre-show duties, warming up the audience with quick-cut transitions and shoutouts that gave the night an early jolt of energy.
Chance emerged to a roar and opened with a string of tracks that spanned his career – from Acid Rap’s “Paranoia” to Coloring Book’s “Summer Friends,” alongside new cuts from his forthcoming album Star Line. The visuals leaned simple, a projector screen alone on stage, emphasizing the music itself over spectacle. But that stripped-back approach occasionally worked against him. Songs that once soared on color and emotion sometimes felt restrained under the dim lighting and sparse production.
Still, there were flashes of the charisma that made Chance such a singular force a decade ago. A grin mid-verse, a moment of gratitude between songs, a crowd still rapping along to “No Problem.” If the night didn’t quite capture his past electricity, it hinted at an artist refocusing on connection over perfection, rebuilding from the ground up.
