mehro at Sonia Music Hall (The Middle East Nightclub) in Cambridge, MA

Tiny Desk‘s mehro is currently on his “weirdthrob world tour,” and I was fortunate enough to come to his Sonia Nightclub performance at The Middle East bar and restaurant, which featured absolutely breathtaking supporting performances from his keyboardist Charles and Evie Irie. To say the least, it was a night to remember with all this amazing talent.

The world tour supports his latest weirdthrob album, released September 9, featuring nine standout tracks. As an accomplished musician praised by NPR’s All Songs Considered, Wonderland, American Songwriter, FLOOD Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, Ones To Watch, Under The Radar, Cero Magazine, Vestal Magazine, named a 2025 “Artist To Watch” by Grammy.com, and with 30 weekly spins on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, we are witnessing the start of his ascent to fame.

During mehro’s concert at Sonia, he encouraged the crowd to take a few deep breaths and exchange compliments. This mindful and welcoming practice united everyone, including mehro and his band. As someone who always feels anxious, this simple act of kindness eased my nerves. It also reminded me of an American Songwriter article I read about him…

“What he [Aurelius] summarizes is that everything that we’re worried about in life right now is going to go away. Your worries are gonna go away. You’re gonna go away. All the hand wringing and being worried about things is a complete waste of energy and time because it’s all going to go away at some point… And he [Aurelius] says that the best thing that we can do is focus on what we do, and get better at it every day. To that point, with songwriting, it’s about the song. Because we’re gonna go away, the individual that the song is about, but the song, if it’s great enough, can live on. If it’s great enough, it can supersede our lifetimes.” – mehro (full credit to American Songwriter article).

After this North American leg of the tour, he’ll play several shows in Europe. See if he’s visiting your area here.
