W.C. Social Club housed alternative chaos in the soundscape of four different powerhouses: Future Palace, Hawk, Half Me, and From Ashes to Embers, each bringing their unique energy and style to this vibrant stage. As the night unfolded, F.A.T.E. opened the evening with a compelling set, setting the tone for an intense evening of music that would leave attendees spellbound. Their performance resonated with the crowd, creating an atmosphere charged with anticipation and excitement. Following this, Half Me took the stage, delivering a thick soundscape that enveloped the audience and drew them deeper into the night’s musical journey. The dynamic performance of Hawk rocked the venue, showcasing their distinctive flair and captivating stage presence that heightened the overall energy. Finally, the night culminated with Germany’s native Future Palace as the energetic headliner, whose electrifying set sent waves of exhilaration through the crowd, leaving everyone in attendance buzzing with adrenaline and unable to shake off the incredible experience.
Before Future Palace took the stage, the crowd was treated to a strong lineup of supporting acts that built energy throughout the night. Hawk stood out personally as a major highlight, as the band all wore matching tee shirts, admittedly from Walmart as well. Frontman Ricky Armellino walked out on stage last, carrying a dart blaster, and shot a few off in the crowd before handing it to a fan and catapulting into the first song. They delivered a nonstop, all gas, no brakes set with hardly any room to talk. Their set created a connection with the audience that delivered the perfect tone, especially giving a fan side stage a huge shout out for coming to a show a week and a half after aortic valve replacement surgery. Their 2024 release “Justify” had most of the room screaming back. It was a performance strong enough to conduct electricity
Half Me played second, and a warm up wouldn’t just quite suit them. These guys beat the brakes off the front rail. This band had a punchy character, a crazy light show, and an animalistic tone. These guys, also from Germany, showed this little Chicago bar what exactly was at stake here. Half Me is borderline lethal, plain and simple. If you’re looking to get rowdy in a small club, I suggest finding their touring routes and follow them. I expect to see them on bills with Architects, Polaris, and Motionless in White in no time.
The energy in the venue was palpable as the Rockford native, new metal-core band From Ashes to Embers took the stage to do what they do best. Their dynamic performance not only got the crowd moving, but also charged everyone up with an exhilarating sense of excitement that is hard to match. Co-fronted bands are a personal favorite of mine, especially when it involves these two powerful vocalists, whose harmonies and contrasting styles create an intense atmosphere. As their set progressed, the synergy between the band members became increasingly evident, drawing the audience deeper into their world of sound and emotion.
W.C. Social Club thrives on shows like these — full of talent, promise, and giving the crowd a source of relief for a night. It’s a very close and intimate room for everybody. Personal space isn’t recognized at the door, and it’s the best feeling in the world.
As a writer, concert photography is something I sometimes take for granted, but nights like this keep me on my toes — and keep my work headed in the right direction. Hopefully, it won’t be my last time with some of these groups, or in this room.
