Montell Fish x dj gummy bear experiment with sound in dual versions of “i saw you in my dream”

Montell Fish just released a new song, i saw you in my dream,” along with an acoustic version, under his other persona, dj gummy bear. If you didn’t know already, Montell Fish created this character a few years ago, described in his Spotify bio as:  “A character from the brain of Montell Fish. Used as a way to further experiment with sounds, concept and musical ideas. Not meant to be taken seriously, just ideas.”

And experiment he does. On this track, the acoustic version feels like the Montell Fish we know, with its R&B influences, slow tempo, and lingering melodies. The original version, by contrast, is more upbeat, drawing on house and dance music. Releasing both versions is a unique move, offering two very different listening experiences. The original immerses you in a wavy, vibrant world, where even with introspective lyrics, the song can be enjoyed with a sense of lightness. The acoustic version, however, feels more emotional and weighty, giving space to focus on Montell’s voice and storytelling.

The tracks followed an already diverse run of tracks released from Montell this year, experimenting with dance music on “murder” and trap on “Same Shit” with Murda Beatz and BKTHERULA, while still offering his signature R&B alternative sound with three acoustics tracks on Days Are Getting Shorter.

“i saw you in my dream” is the latest glimpse of the mysterious project purgatory which will be released later this fall.
