September 12 marked a new release for the award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist BIRD (Janie Price), with her uncanny new single The Film,” available to stream on a variety of platforms. The track is the first installment from her forthcoming EP, Strange as Folk, and made its appearance before her AmericanaFest showcase taking place at City Winery Lounge, Nashville.

“The Film” features a movie-like approach that explores the tension of heartbreak and torment. The track was written during the isolation of the COVID lockdown, a personal insight into BIRD’s experience in her home city of London. The genre-blending track has connotations of Americana, folk, and indie pop with elements of folk horror, while offering an emotionally layered creation.

BIRD is recognized for her heavenly vocals and genre bending creations, composing mesmerizing sonic landscapes utilizing intricate finger-plucked ukulele and banjo, accompanied by unreal visionary textures and tied together with her distinctive voice, creating a track that feels both intimate and grand.

“The Film” is a sequel to her highly praised previous EP, released in June, and was the first insight into this daring and exploratory new chapter. Her approaching EP Strange as Folk will make it’s debut throughout autumn, parellel to her directional outset with a short documentary about Roy Orbison titled “You Found A Friend in Elvis.”

There’s no stopping BIRD as she graces AmericanaFest after the success of her award-winning initial short film “Wider Than The Sky,” earning nine international awards, including the Aviva Short Film Best Drama Award and global recognition.
