On August 22, breakthrough artist, sombr, released his highly anticipated album I Barely Know Her via Warner Records. Continuing his momentous rise, the 10-track album features songs like “undressed,” “back to friends,” and “12 to 12,” which were featured on the Billboard Top 100, and continue to climb charts, including Top 40 Radio, Global and U.S. Spotify Charts, and Alternative Radio. Here, he peaked at No. 1 faster than any new artist of the last decade. On the Billboard Hot Rock Songs, he officially knocked Hozier off the No. 1 spot after a year.
I BARELY KNOW HER [ALBUM]
crushing
12 to 12
i wish i knew how to quit you
back to friends
canal street

undressed
come closer
we never dated
under the mat
I Barely Know Her was completely written by sombr, and co-produced by the 20-year-old artist alongside legendary producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, The Replacements). He made his award show debut at the MTV Video Music Awards, and will perform live from New York on September 7, where he is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Artist. This month, sombr will embark on a sold-out North American tour before his sold-out European, U.K., Australian, and New Zealand tour dates for late 2025 and into 2026.
I have recently caught the hype for sombr’s music, and have been loving the album so far. From videos, it seems that he has a very magnetic stage presence, and has a humorous and intriguing online persona. I’m really loving his song “12 to 12” and its music video that features dancing and acting from Addison Rae. I was also captivated by his live performance of “back to friends” on Jimmy Fallon. The emotion he was conveying oozed through the screen and brought me to watch the performance multiple times. It’s such a fun dance anthem and really brings back pop-club vibes to the mainstream. I’m excited to see what else sombr releases, and the success he’ll have on his tour this year and next.
Born Shane Boose, sombr is a New York City native raised on the Lower East Side, and started making music in his bedroom while studying classical music at the prestigious LaGuardia High School. His 2022 breakout hit “Caroline” had the internet in a chokehold, and he continued to release a series of singles and EPs, climbing to over 400 million monthly streams on all platforms. He is now based in Los Angeles and continues to examine young love and heartbreak through his music, which is all self-written and co-produced by himself and distributed via Warner Records.
