Jackson Stell—better known as Big Wild—emerged from Worcester, Massachusetts, as a hip-hop beat producer before redefining himself in Big Sur, California, as an innovative, atmospheric electronic artist. Known for lush soundscapes and sweeping melodies, his work resonates with his inner spirit. His career features successful releases and collaborations, notably his April 2015 track “Aftergold,” which topped the “Spotify Global Viral Chart.”
Following the release of his Wild Child album, Big Wild launched his newest tour. During this tour, he has partnered with nonprofits like the Ethos Music Center, donating $1 from every ticket sold to support music education.
The Wild Child album is a conceptual project inspired by Big Wild’s vision of confronting the pressures of adulthood through the lens of his “inner child superhero.” This concept is central to the album, which explores the idea that true maturity involves maintaining the belief, magic, and curiosity of childhood even when facing adult challenges. The album’s soaring and cinematic focus track, “Stardust,” embodies these themes of wonder and possibility.
Wild Child is an invitation to rediscover joy, freedom, and connection. By collaborating with artists like Twen, iDA HAWK, and Phantogram, he has essentially created an emotionally resonant and exuberant body of work.
This was my first time seeing Big Wild, and his joyful energy was immediately evident—even from the balcony. His presence filled the Citizens House of Blues, and the crowd of over 1,000 responded with enthusiasm, making the atmosphere feel electric despite the house being at half capacity. The show was nothing less than amazing, and his talent struck me as walking the line between entertaining and energetic, and fun and child-like.
When writing this, it’s been just under a week… And I am still buzzing about it.
