BRAVEWORDS (CA)
German metal legends HELLOWEEN have become a notable name within the power metal scene, with their proficiency in euphoric speed metal, known for their distinctive albums and powerful performances. Giants & Monsters, the critically acclaimed sequel to their No .1 album, has made its debut by Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM) and adds another chapter to the band’s journey. The highly anticipated record will be greatly received and celebrated by the Pumpkinheads globally as they also take to the stage for their upcoming “40 Years Anniversary Tour.” The international tour will feature a set list spanning records past and present, along with fresh live shows, kicking off in Europe this autumn and followed by tours in Asia, North America, and Latin America. Giants & Monsters is a powerhouse of a HELLOWEEN album: overflowing with boldness and energy, the ensemble have created the most diverse album of their career. Accompanying the album debut, there is a ’90s MTV-inspired music video, featuring the track “A Little Is A Little Too Much.” Against the use of AI, it transports the viewer into a miniature doll house, making the artists look like giants. Experimenting with optical illusions really creates an alluring gift for the eyes, ears, and all other senses with elements of HELLOWEEN’s hallmark sense of humour and shows the fun side of the group. The track is an authentic hit with unforgettable hooks that instantly reel listeners in.
Andi Deris shares on the single, “I wanted to write something about the last drop that causes a huge flooding – a little is a little too much. The story itself is a bit erotic. It’s about my first experiences when I was a teenager. You always dream about having sex and finally once you have it you realise: Okay, it took one second that something happened that you didn’t want in that moment. And here we go: A little is a little too much, better don’t move or don’t touch. But in the end, it is about all the minor things that get out of hand with this little bit more, and then it’s a little too much.”
Guitarist Sascha Gerstner, pioneer of the clip idea concept, adds: “HELLOWEEN have been known for going against the tide of heavy metal clichés since the 80’s. Think of music videos like ‘I Want Out’ or ‘Where The Rain Grows’ – it always was about not taking yourself too seriously. With the music video for ‘A Little Is A Little Too Much,’ we wanted to pursue this spirit and connect the old days with the new era.”
Giants & Monsters blurs the lines of HELLOWEEN’s sound with credit to producers Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward, as well as the band’s determination to strive for greatness. As an example, drummer Dani Löble recorded all tracks using three different drum kits to capture the perfect feel for each song: a demonstration of their attention to detail and passion of thinking outside of the box.
“The relentless experimentation of their ultimate seven-member line-up
has finally reached the pinnacle with Giants & Monsters.”
BURRN! (JP)
Giants & Monsters marks the fifth decade of the band’s journey and is a testimony to the band’s influence and being a favourite among heavy metal fans. Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, Netherlands (IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, DEF LEPPARD, etc.) was the staple place of mixing for the project Giants & Monsters, which reasserts the band’s place within the metal world.
