Nine Inch Nails has released “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” their first new single in five years. The New York Times called the single a powerful return to the band’s classic sound. It features “buzz-bomb synthesizers, stomping march beat, stereo ricochets and gut-wrenching vocals.” The new track is the first release from the upcoming TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). This marks the band’s first-ever film soundtrack composition.
The song’s music video, directed by Maxime Quoilin, visually captures its theme of escalating pressure. Watch the video below.
NIN is currently touring the North American leg of their sold-out “Peel It Back” world tour. The lineup features Robin Finck, Alessandro Coritini, and John Freese. Boys Noize is supporting on all dates. Following two sold-out shows at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the tour continues through the southern U.S. It will conclude on September 18 and 19 with a two-night stand at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will be the next release from NIN. It is set for release on September 19 via Interscope Records. Bandmates Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are the masterminds behind this soundtrack. This will be their first solo soundtrack, and the first single has already been released. A 7” vinyl pre-order also includes the B-side “EMPATHETIC RESPONSE,” another song from the album.
