The Plot In You returns on a short yet absolutely stacked headlining tour with an impressive lineup consisting of Northlane, Invent Animate, and Windwaker. If you’re a fan of any of these bands, you should know all of them are truly incredible live and it was an absolute treat to see them all together in one night.
It’s not often you see a venue packed so early for the first band, but Sunday night in Sayreville was an exception as Windwaker brought the heat straight from Australia at the start. They opened with one of their most popular tracks, “SIRENS“, which got the energy up immediately and set the tone for the rest of the night. Their newest track, “Victory Lap,” was just as hard hitting as it is on streaming and a great taste of what’s more to come from the rising band.
Invent Animate were up next, and the six-song setlist they had was not nearly enough for their brilliance. Donning their signature white outfits, they played a selection of songs all off their album Heavener, showcasing the best of the best both instrumentally and vocally, with a perfect balance of heavy and melodic. They ended with “Immolation of Night,” a crazy breakdown, and an insane wall of death that left you just wanting more from the band.
Northlane kicked off their set with an explosive start with “Carbonized” and their signature futuristic, cyberpunk-y look. Northlane is no stranger here, with the crowd welcoming them enthusiastically, singing along, and setting mosh pits into motion. A highlight of their set was the melody of “Worldeater,” “Jinn,” and “Dispossession” into the remix of “Solar,” which really was a highlight melody representative of who they are. “Clockwork” closed out their set, the perfect track for the crowd to get energized one last time before setting the scene for the headliner of the night.
The Plot In You are one of the best in the scene, and even before they took to the stage, you could tell from their immaculately detailed set design—complete with vines, moss, leaves, and even a whole armchair and lamp to the side—that it set the atmosphere for the experience to come. They opened with “Spare Me,” and vocalist Landon Tewers effortlessly delivered the intensity and vulnerability that would continue to be showcased through the rest of the night.
It was a surprise when Landon slowed it down, settling into the armchair in the corner of the stage with just a lamp, mic, and acoustic guitar, before delivering a beautiful, emotional, stripped-down intro to the new unreleased track “Silence.” There was a delicate silence of awe from the audience before the rest of the band kicked in, and you could tell the moment people got it.
The energy throughout their entire set was relentless, with endless waves of crowd-surfers and mosh pits. The support from fans was unreal, and even surprising when Landon asked for a show of hands from anyone who had been with them for 10 years—and a large portion of the crowd raised their hands.
The night concluded with a finale of “Time Changes Everything,” “Left Behind,” and “FEEL NOTHING,” a three song run that you could not ask to be any better. Every lyric was screamed back at the band, and the passion you could feel in the room was unmatched, with both the band and audience giving it all they had for the end of the night.
If you’re lucky to be in a city where this tour is hitting, you don’t want to miss it. Otherwise, there are still plenty of shows where you can catch all four bands, with The Plot In You opening for Bring Me The Horizon on their massive arena tour, Northlane heading out on their own headlining tour with Windwaker opening, and Invent Animate co-headlining with Silent Planet on the “Bloom In Heaven Part 2” tour.
