Slow Crush releases new album ‘Thirst’

As the heat of summer slowly dissipates into fall, heavy shoegaze band Slow Crush has returned just in time with a dreamy haze of a new record. Thirst surrounds the listener in its atmospheric noise, the heaviness almost calming, like a weighted blanket. In the four years since their previous record Hush, members Isa Holliday, Frederik Meeuwis, Jelle Ronsmans, and Nic Placlé have been able to reflect and innovate, bringing a well-developed, actualized maturity to their classic shoegaze sound. Their first album on Pure Noise Records, Thirst marks a new trajectory for the Belgian band.

According to frontwoman Isa Holliday, the band wants to take listeners to another dimension: “We want people to let themselves go and feel embraced by the music, so that they can experience it in 4D,” she says. In such a hectic, fast-paced world, where the concern always seems to be either about a past we cannot change or a future we cannot control, Slow Crush is uniquely in the moment.

The production on each track shows the band’s experience in the shoegaze genre—this being their third studio album—as well as the drive to experiment with hardcore influences that sets them apart from their contemporaries. The guitars are distorted enough to create the perfect hypnotic sound, while catchy punk riffs on songs like “Covet” jump in to break up the monotony. “Hollow” brings the ambience to stratospheric heights before “Haven” brings it back down to a slow, pounding tempo.

The band is busier than ever, heading on tour across North America and Europe this fall: tickets are available now.
