Stacey Ryan shares debut album

Los Angeles-by-way-of-Montreal songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Stacey Ryan uncovers her long-awaited debut album Blessing In Disguise today, August 15, supported by the release of a dainty, homesick music video for “Montréal,” the opening track for the album.

Blessing In Disguise is an 11-song history of growth, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Each track conveys a distinct moment of emotional truth, whether it’s the bittersweet push-and-pull of “Bad Omen,” the piercing confrontation of “Nothing Like You,” or the liberated release of “Sweet Talker.” Across the record, Ryan weeds her signature jazz-inflected chord changes and agile, warm vocals through pop-soul arrangements that feel at once timeless and fresh.

“I’m so excited and proud to bring you my debut full length album Blessing In Disguise,” Ryan shares. “Every song represents a different lesson learned in life and relationships, and how I grew from each situation. At the time it seemed I would be stuck in those hard places forever, but now looking back I realized I needed to go through all those experiences to be who I am today.”

The record’s main single, “Montréal,” serves as both a love letter to Ryan’s acceptance of life in Los Angeles and to her hometown. Over lightly swaying percussion and lustrous keys, she sings of missing her family, braving distance, and finding home in unexpected places. The accompanying video captures this duality, unitedly intimate scenes of city life in Montreal with snapshots of her life in Los Angeles.

The release follows “Bad Omen,” a scintillating soul-pop confessional Ryan described as “the frustration of opening up to someone, only to realize that their true intentions didn’t align with mine.” That single offered a preview of Blessing In Disguise’s balance of vitality and vulnerability; heartbreak you can dance (or cry) to.

Ryan’s path has been anything but ordinary. She first went viral in 2022 with “Don’t Text Me When You’re Drunk” (350M views, 280K pre-saves), before breaking globally with “Fall In Love Alone,” a No. 1 Billboard hit in Indonesia and Top 5 across Southeast Asia, accumulating over half a billion streams. In that same year, she was handpicked by Duran Duran to open their BST Hyde Park show in London and performed her breakout single on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

In the years since, Stacey has toured across North America, Europe, and Asia, and blessed the stages of Montreal Jazz Festival, Montreux and Jakarta’s Java Soul, and many more. She’s now set to embark on her first North American headlining tour in September. A classically trained jazz pianist who also plays bass, guitar, trumpet, and ukulele, she’s built a reputation for shifting complex musicality into wildly catchy pop. With Blessing In Disguise, Ryan opens her most revealing chapter yet, setting her place as one of the most compelling new voices in modern pop.
