Ahead of a run of festivals and headline shows in Europe this summer, Japanese band coldrain is back with a powerful second single this year, “Chasing Shadows,” off their newly announced EP OPTIMIZE, releasing later in fall.
Vocalist Masato shares about the new song:
”This song was inspired by tales of people who questioned the values and rules they were given, and tried to find the truth for themselves. I wanted to share how important it is to explore + understand each other, instead of easily moving toward conflict or anger. Even if the world feels closed off, the fire inside us can’t be put out. It’s a message to keep taking small steps forward, even when we feel lost.”
In a surprise move outside of his usual comfort zone, Masato has written and sung Japanese lyrics for the first time in coldrain’s discography. For those who may not know, the Japanese-American vocalist has performed exclusively in English throughout the band’s existence since 2007—until now.
coldrain has been a cornerstone in the rock scene in Japan, and with their signing to Century Media Records earlier this year alongside the release of “INCOMPLETE,” they are ready to take the steps to finally expand their domain internationally. The band will return on a headlining tour through the U.K. and Europe later this year where fans can expect to hear new tracks from the OPTIMIZE EP.
