The Roseland Theater in Portland, Ore., on Wednesday night was brutal in the best way possible. The Acacia Strain, currently touring in support of their upcoming release You Are Safe From God Here, brought an absolutely stacked line-up of equally heavy hitters for a night filled with brutal breakdowns, growls, and a mosh pit so intense it likely resulted in calling out from work the next day if you braved it.

The Acacia Strain are approaching almost 25 years as a band, though vocalist Vincent Bennett is the only original founding member that remains. Still, the band played heavy hits from their entire discography during their 16-song setlist at the Roseland Theater on August 6, 2025. The setlist featured at least one song from all but three of their albums of a 12-album total discography, as well as their new single “A CALL BEYOND,” the first single from their album You Are Safe From God Here, set to release on October 24. It was a set full of back-to-back bangers, ending with the popular anthems “The Hills Have Eyes” from 2010’s Wormwood and “Carbomb” from 2004’s 3750. As the mosh pit flailed, a steady stream of crowd surfers made there way over the barricade. Bennett reached his microphone stand out to them as they came and fans shouted the chorus into the mic before security shuffled them away to make room for the next surfer.

The crowd didn’t let up the entire evening — even a bloody nose wouldn’t stop one crowd surfer. After sticking a tissue up his nose, he kept moshing and surfing.

The crowd was wild for the support acts as well. The Acacia Strain brought with them Bodysnatcher from Florida, hardcore band Ingrown from Boise, Idaho, hardcore straight edge band No Cure from Birmingham, Alabama, and death metal band Tribal Gaze from Texas.

Tribal Gaze got the crowd warmed up and the mosh pit started. No Cure brought the heat and got the crowd two-stepping. Fans at the barricade were head-banging and singing along to their catchy hardcore choruses. Ingrown played some songs from their new album Idaho. By the time Bodysnatcher took to the stage, the crowd was primed. The crowd for Bodysnatcher was raucous. Fists slung in the pit and legs kicked high as fans crowd surfed at the front. After watching from the sidelines for the first half of Bodysnatcher’s set, I finally decided to join in on the fun and brave the pit, managing to survive until the last song “King Of The Rats.” I may or may not have suffered a subluxation in my shoulder from my time in the pit, but I can say it was absolutely worth it. I’m certain I wasn’t the only one to come out of the pit with a slight injury, either, but judging by the smiles on everyone’s faces at the end of the night, it was equally beneficial for everyone who let loose in the pit that evening.
