Rich Brian is back with a softer, more vulnerable side on his new single “Oh Well,” the last track fans will hear before his album Where Is My Head? drops on August 15. Watch HERE.
The song trades the high-energy punch of his last release “Jumpy,” featuring Ski Mask The Slump God, for a slower, moodier feel. Built on hazy R&B melodies, “Oh Well” finds Brian reflecting on heartbreak and the messy mix of longing and resentment that comes with it. It’s self-produced and arranged by Brian himself, showing just how much he’s grown as both an artist and a producer.
The track comes with a visualizer by Jared Hogan and follows Brian’s first live show in years, an emotional return at Head In The Clouds Festival in Los Angeles, where he performed for 40,000 fans. It also wraps up the storylines of his alter-egos Maestro and Movie Brian, which appeared in videos for earlier singles like “Little Ray of Light,” “Butterfly,” and “Jumpy.”
Where Is My Head? will be Brian’s first full-length album since 2019, and he’s approaching it with a new mindset. He asks, “How can I continue to make music that I love more than anything else?” —and he answers that question on each and every track. On this project, he sings more than ever before, plays most of the instruments himself, and leans into a warm, analog sound after teaching himself synthesizers and keyboards.
He’s had the hits—becoming the first Asian artist to top the iTunes Hip-Hop charts—but now he’s focused on something else. His priority is simple: How can he create art that brings him happiness?
“Oh Well” is out now, and Where Is My Head? drops August 15.
