Eighty Ninety is back with their new single, “Hollywood Dream.” Combining electrifying guitar, captivating hooks, and cinematic visuals, the track explores the concept of love being stuck between dreamy romance and jarring reality, as if watching the story unfold on screen, but being anchored down by the truth.
“‘Hollywood Dream’ is about the thrill and longing that can consume a relationship until you start to wonder if that intensity is love or just addiction,” the duo explains. “It’s about the desire to mythologize your life, to see yourself inside a cinematic story that gives everything meaning — even the pain. But it’s also about how those stories can trap you. And how, even when you know that, part of you still wants to stay inside the dream.”

Eighty Ninety is made up of the James brothers, Abner on vocals and production, and Harper on guitar and production. The two combine narrative-driven and hooking melodies with a simple but effective approach. Blending elements of acoustic and electronic sounds, giving it an “808s and Telecasters” style as described by the pair, representing both their music and experimental mindset in the studio.
2016 marked their breakout onto the indie scene with the release of their EP, Elizabeth, with the track “three thirty,” which made a recognizable impact on the internet. The New York-based duo is on a roll, having accumulated a notable 40 million streams, being recognized by outlets such as Alternative Press and Billboard, gaining their place on Ones to Watch, as well as appearing on Netflix and MTV shows. 2023 was another key year for the two, as they released their highly anticipated debut album, reinstating their place as a duo to watch in the indie pop collective.
