The Global Citizen Festival is back! Just days after producing the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup halftime show, the activist organization has announced that the 2025 Global Citizen Festival is returning to Central Park in New York City this September with The Weeknd and Shakira to headline and Hugh Jackman to host. On September 27, 2025, on the Great Lawn in Central Park, festival goers can also experience performances by Tyla, Arya Starr, and Mariah the Scientist.
The 2025 Global Citizen Festival campaign will support three main goals: providing energy access to one million people in Africa, providing 30,000 children with access to education, and protecting 30 million hectares of the Amazon Rainforest. The organization will also help enable 40,000 New Yorkers to volunteer across the city. Tickets to the festival are free and can be earned by supporting and taking action on these causes – for more information download the Global Citizen app or visit globalcitizenfestival.com.
About the Campaigns:
Goal 1: Provide Energy for 1 Million People Across Africa
As the population of Africa continues to grow, so does its need for stable and reliable electricity infrastructure, yet not all communities are provided the systems they need. Global Citizen aims to mobilize $1.5 billion to educate and train 50,000 workers in energy skills, including installation and maintenance, to support these important modern industrialization initiatives. The organization is encouraging governments, companies, and other advocacy organizations to assist in the investment of clean and reliable energy solutions so African communities can power their homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses in a way that carries them forward and doesn’t harm the environment around them.
Goal 2: Protect 30 Million Hectares of the Amazon Rainforest
There is no doubt that we must protect the Amazon rainforest from deforestation and other detrimental environmental impacts. Global Citizen is partnering with Re:wild to raise over $200 million to support the next generation of indigenous and community-based organizations to protect and restore the Amazon.
Goal 3: Provide 30,000 Children Worldwide with Access to Education
In a recent study by UNESCO, it has been found that 250 million children worldwide are falling behind in literacy. To mitigate this issue, Global Citizen has partnered with FIFA to raise $100 million to provide children all over the world with access to quality education. The organizations are also pressuring governments and the private sector to assist in funding healthcare, nutrition, and safe classrooms to support the infrastructure needed to effectively provide these children with the education they need.
