PVRIS brings the White Noise anniversary tour to Berlin

With a debut album as iconic and timeless as White Noise, it’s only right that it gets celebrated on its 10 year anniversary.

The show started with a full run through of the album front to back, starting with “Smoke,” and the crowd was immediately drawn into the performance when the band stepped on stage. With Lynn’s grounded and solid stage presence, coupled with her powerful vocals and a crowd singing along to every word, you have the blueprint for an incredible night!

The show continued with fan favorite “St.Patrick,” which, after years, made its way back onto the setlist on last year’s tour. This had the whole crowd jumping along and singing their hearts out! Moving through the album, we get to “Eyelids,” that, to my knowledge, hasn’t been on the setlist before this tour. It was a nice change of pace to slow down, which was much needed in the heat, given that this show was during a heatwave with no air conditioning in the venue.

Ending the White Noise portion of the set with “You & I” from the deluxe version of the album – a staple on the PVRIS setlist – was a perfect ending to this part of the set.

After the band leaves the stage, some sort of elevator music starts playing, but since this is PVRIS, it’s of course not just regular elevator music. It slowly turns into elevator music fit for a horror movie with a distorted voice mixed in.

Then the band comes back, opening the second act with “BURN THE WITCH,” one of the heavier songs in their discography. A hit or miss with fans, personally I am a big fan of this one, and the live version is even better. Followed by “Snakes” from the show “Arcane,” a welcome surprise on the setlist that fans have been wanting to hear live for a long time! Continuing the set with the high energy songs from their latest album EVERGREEN, “GOOD ENEMY” and “ANIMAL.” Then moving into “Dead Weight” and “Oil & Water,” which Lynn introduces as a love song. Going right into “Monster” after, followed by “Hallucinations” and ending the set with “Goddess,” which she dedicated to “the girlies, the gays, and the theys”.

Unfortunately, the setlist was cut a little short from the U.S. tour, and for Europe didn’t include any songs from their album all we know of heaven, all we need of hell. It was a bummer for me, as that is probably my favourite album of theirs, but I’m hoping it gets its moment for the 10 year anniversary coming up in a couple years.

Lynn also took a moment during the set to talk about how grateful they are to be able to still do this 10 years later to a packed room, showing appreciation to the fans and mentioning how this wouldn’t be possible without people continuing to show up.

For me, there’s not much that beats a PVRIS show. From the performance, the music, the energy in the room – it’s something that can’t be described but needs to be experienced. If you are one of the lucky ones to see Linkin Park on the dates PVRIS are opening, I highly suggest you show up early to catch their set!

Julia Wolf

Julia Wolf was the opener, and she is having an up moment right now; it was so nice to finally see her live! She mostly performs songs from her new album PRESSURE, with a couple older songs mixed in. She had a really good performance, unfortunately the stage lights for her set were not great.
