Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM) and MusiCares have partnered to launch the tribute project KING ULTRAMEGA, celebrating the legacy and music of Chris Cornell while raising crucial funds for mental health and addiction recovery services.
KING ULTRAMEGA debuts its first single with a passionate reimagining of Soundgarden’s “Rusty Cage,” featuring:
- Vocals: William DuVall (Alice in Chains)
- Guitars: Bill Kelliher (Mastadon)
- Bass: Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance)
- Drums: Charlie Benante (Anthrax, Pantera)
Each single released by KING ULTRAMEGA will feature a rotating cast from across the rock and metal world, covering Cornell’s work from Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, and his solo career. All proceeds from KING ULTRAMEGA will benefit MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s nonprofit organization supporting the mental health, addiction recovery, and emergency needs of music professionals.
“Chris Cornell’s voice and presence meant so much to so many, including all of us at MusiCares,” says Theresa Wolters, Interim Executive Director. “It’s deeply meaningful to see his legacy continue through a project that brings connection, awareness, and hope to the music community.”
“Rusty Cage” is available now across all major platforms, including a Youtube visualizer you can watch right here!
Fans can expect more releases in the coming months, each paying homage to Cornell’s incomparable genius and a call to action for mental health support across the music industry.
