Earlier this spring, Dayseeker dropped a new single, “Pale Moonlight;” however, it wasn’t until recently that they announced their forthcoming new album. This new album, titled Creature In Black The Night, arrives on October 24. You can stream and watch the official music video for the album’s titular track now. Go ahead and preorder that whole package while you’re at it.
This track is an anthem and embodies everything that fans of Dayseeker love — from the vocal shifts featuring vocalist Rory Rodriguez’s falsetto to the enchanting melodies that mold its breakdowns. The song starts off with a mesmerizing sound that just captivates you right at the beginning and then it leads to the breakdown beats. I love Dayseeker for their ability to create transitions that are smooth, from the melodic vocals to the hard growls.
This track has me captivated, and I will be streaming it endlessly. The song is about your darker self overtaking and holding you to that enticing rush that is so addicting, you cannot break free. While this is a pretty common song topic that bands use, it’s done so differently by everyone that it gains a new definition each time. My favorite line is, “At the end of every dream, there’s a demon saying I didn’t need help ruining my life,” which serves as a double edged sword. As humans, we make mistakes, we experience feelings — a lot, if not all, experience self-deprecation and self-criticism. We are all our own biggest critics because we expect so highly of ourselves that sometimes when we face inner demons, we don’t know how to respond. We think that we are the problem when the real battle we face is our own inner thoughts — the devil on our shoulder. The demon is telling you that you didn’t need help because it was all you. That’s not true, every story has two sides. Maybe not making the best decision was not the right call, but what influenced it?
This song is so hauntingly dark and beautiful in all the best ways. I cannot wait to see what else we get from Dayseeker later this year. They are on their own mini headlining tour for July, and then starting August 8, you can catch them in support of Ice Nine Kills.
