Tomorrowland will go on after main stage fire erupts 48 hours before gates open

With opening day approaching on Tomorrowland 2025, plans are still forming after a massive fire engulfed the main stage on Wednesday, bringing the structure to a pile of rubble. Wednesday, during final preparation for this year’s festival, an accidental fire broke out, causing plumes of smoke to spread across the sky in Belgium. Fireworks from pyrotechnics ready for the start of the festival were heard going off in the news coverage. Residents of the town of Boom were asked to shelter in place, close windows, and shut off ventilation systems due to all of the smoke. The fire and smoke could be seen from miles away as festivalgoers arrived in the city days before the event.

Tomorrowland has drawn crowds from around the world since 2005. For the largest EDM festival in the world, drawing nearly 400,000 fans and musicians, organizers have announced the festival will go on, even as solutions for what to do about the main stage continue to be explored since the fire broke out. Luckily, no festivalgoers were on the grounds of the event, and 1,000 workers were evaluated with no injuries reported.

The EDM festival features performers such as David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Steve Aoki, and Chicago-based John Summit, who will be making his first performance at the festival. With 20 different artists hitting the stage, this will be such an electric two weekends for the festival to produce.

The gates open Thursday for campers and festivalgoers. Not even a main stage fire can stop these fans from enjoying the weekend. Festival organizes have said cancelling the festival would be the absolute last resort. I believe fans and festivalgoers would rather see this event happen, fire or not.

The campsite, called Dreamville, will hold many of the festivalgoers. All campers that have arrived today have said the mood is subdued and very somber compared to the normal party atmosphere. This will all change on Friday, when 14 other stages will be surrounded by the festivalgoers dancing and cheering to some of the best electronic dance music from around the world.
