Nine months after his first show in Paris, the southern rockstar who has conquered the internet’s heart turned La Boule Noire, fully sold-out, upside down.
The venue is at capacity, the heat is almost bearable, the tension slowly builds up as the opening artist, Felix Antonio, bewitches the crowd with his soft voice and dreamy songs. Then, bursting with energy, Sawyer Hill makes his big entrance under the screams of fans either eager to relive the concert they fell in love with at La Belleviloise last year or make up for missing it.
In the crowd can be spotted Metallica T-shirts, as well as Nothing but Thieves’, while a song plays in the background from The Districts’ 2015 album. It is that musical and generational mix that Sawyer Hill perfectly embodies on stage. While the first row seems flabbergasted to break the screen barrier that separated them from their beloved artist, the back of the room clearly screams of long-lost habits from the 1990s – arms high, hands in the sign of the horn.
Amazing stage presence and interactions with his musicians and the audience, the 25-year-old really makes his 10 years of experience shine through during his concerts and manages to create both an emotional and overexcited atmosphere.
