Sara Angel dives into love’s aftermath on new single “what’s love?”

Music has always been in Sara Angel’s orbit. The daughter of Christian singer Priscila Angel and Gustavo Angel, the iconic voice of Los Temerarios, was born into a world where melody and emotion were part of daily life. But even with that deep musical lineage, Sara is carving out her own creative identity — one that blends indie pop, R&B, and Latin influences into something quietly powerful and wholly her own.

On June 6, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter unveils “what’s love?,” an indie-pop ballad steeped in heartbreak, memory, and emotional residue. Both vulnerable and restrained, the track paints a vivid picture of what it means to hold onto love after it’s gone.

With hushed intensity and a haunting melodic pull, “what’s love?” captures the quiet devastation of a relationship’s end — the kind that doesn’t explode but dissolves slowly, leaving behind echoes of something that once felt like home.

“It’s about loving someone who’s already gone” Angel explains. “It’s holding onto memories that still feel real, even when you know they’re not coming back. It’s the kind of love that hurts because it never had a chance to stay.”

That aching sense of loss courses through every line. Angel’s songwriting moves delicately, tracing the emotional weight of lingering attachment, not through dramatic declarations, but through moments of quiet realisation. In her hands, love isn’t just a story of connection, it’s also about what’s left when it slips away.

Sara was born in Mexico and raised in Texas, she moved to the U.S. at five and started writing songs young, though it wasn’t until high school that she knew she wanted to pursue music seriously. After a brief stint at Belmont University in Nashville, she joined her father on tour — a decision that solidified her calling. Sara’s TikTok presence helped grow a fanbase, boosted by her bilingual covers and emotional originals like “Ephemeral” and “Echo.” The latter marked a turning point in both sound and self-discovery. Inspired by artists like Kacey Musgraves and Natalia Lafourcade, she’s now shaping a project that reflects her own voice.

She acknowledges that her family name opens doors, but insists her journey is her own. “I envision good things to come, but I’m still figuring it all out,” she says with quiet determination. “I love music and I want to create something where people feel identified and feel welcome. I want people to find some sort of community within my music.”

With “what’s love?,” Sara Angel continues to define herself as a powerful voice in alt-pop — one unafraid to explore the complexities of emotion in its rawest form. With this new single, more music on the way, and a tour ahead, Sara Angel is just getting started.
