Open Mike Eagle announces new album, single, and tour

Hip-hop artist and comedian Open Mike Eagle announced his new album, Neighborhood Gods Unlimited, out July 11, and followed with a release of his latest single, “contraband (the plug has bags of me).” July 9 marks the start of his headlining tour, days before the release of Neighborhood Gods Unlimited. He kicks off his 13-stop tour in Los Angeles, California, and stops by his native city of Chicago, Illinois, on July 24, at his 10th tour stop.

Open Mike Eagle’s single, “contraband (the plug has bags of me),” reflects on Mike’s experiences growing up in Chicago over a jazzy beat produced by Kenny Segal.

Mike says, “The trauma at the center of Neighborhood Gods Unlimited is mine. I was shattered as a young person and I spent the majority of my life not knowing it. In my ignorance I would go on to shatter myself even further because it was all I knew. This is a story about how people who are trying to find themselves get confused when they encounter things that remind them of themselves.” Mike began the development of Neighborhood Gods Unlimited after being inspired by the stories around the trauma of marginalized people.
