Thursday night at Emo’s was one of those shows that sticks with you, not just for the music, but for how it made you feel. Ninja Sex Party’s “Pure Elegance Tour” rolled through Austin on June 8 with a sold-out crowd, and from the moment I stepped inside, the energy was completely contagious. People were dressed up in capes, deep V-necks, and sparkle—some even channeling full Danny Sexbang looks—and the vibe was nothing short of electric.

Opener TWRP set the tone right away with their space-funk-meets-sci-fi stage presence. I found myself cheering as Doctor Sung rolled across the stage on a hoverboard like some kind of intergalactic disco wizard. Every time he hit a move or cracked a joke, sound effects rang out over the speakers, adding a cartoonish punch to the already animated set. At one point, he jumped straight into the splits like it was nothing—and the crowd went off. It was hard not to smile the entire time.

Then came Ninja Sex Party, and the energy somehow leveled up. From the first moment Danny and Ninja Brian appeared, the crowd was totally locked in. No phones in the air—just everyone fully present, shouting every lyric and dancing like no one was watching. It felt rare and refreshing, like we were all in on the same secret.

And then… the corn. Ninja Brian, ever silent and ever mysterious, slowly pulled multiple cobs of corn from a basket and began dropping them down the front of his pants without saying a word. It was absurd, hilarious, and somehow perfect. We were crying laughing.

What stuck with me most, though, wasn’t just the chaos—it was the community. Both bands took a moment to thank the fans and share how much they value and love everyone who shows up to these shows. And you could feel it. The room was buzzing with that kind of joyful weirdness that makes you feel like you belong exactly as you are.

They ended the night with “Danny Don’t You Know,” and as the entire venue screamed along, I couldn’t help but feel like I was part of something special. For a couple of hours, nothing mattered but being there, being present, and being completely ourselves.
