This upcoming weekend, Tony Award®-nominated actress Melissa Errico (“My Fair Lady,” “Les Misérables,” “Dracula”) graces the stage at 54 Below in New York City to perform the songs of theater legend, her friend and teacher, Stephen Sondheim.
Both during his lifetime and years after, Stephen Sondheim is a name that almost every theater fan knows. A groundbreaking composer and lyricist, Sondheim won numerous Tony Awards, including one for lifetime achievement in theater, an Academy Award, multiple Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and – in 2015 – a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Errico’s connection to Sondheim’s music is a personal one, as she worked with the composer on productions of “Sunday in the Park with George” in addition to performing as part of the cast of “Into The Woods’” concert run, where she played the Baker’s Wife. Errico has also released two Sondheim albums herself, Sondheim Sublime and Sondheim in The City, with a third one on the way.
Joining Errico onstage will be Jazz musician Bruce Harris and pianist Tedd Firth. Furthermore, on the second night of this performance, June 21, audiences should expect Tony Award® winner Len Cariou, also known as the original demon barber himself in “Sweeney Todd.“
