Jessie Murph has never shied away from complex realities, but her next chapter is bolder, louder, and more unapologetically her than ever before.
The 20 year-old vocal powerhouse just announced her sophomore album Sex Hysteria, out July 18 via Columbia Records. It’s shaping up to be her most personal, and provocative, project yet. Where her debut album, That Ain’t No Man That’s The Devil, channeled heartbreak and emotional grit, this new project flips the focus inward. She’s not just telling stories, she’s reclaiming them.
The album’s title, Sex Hysteria, carries layers of meaning. Historically, “hysteria” was a term used to pathologize women’s emotions and sexuality, rooted in outdated ideas that framed female expression as irrational or dangerous. By naming her album Sex Hysteria, Jessie flips that narrative, reclaiming power over the shame and stigma that have long tried to silence women who dare to be loud, sexual or emotionally raw. This album is both a reckoning with the past and a fearless declaration of freedom.
Across 15 tracks, Murph peels back layers most artists wouldn’t touch. She wrestles with her past, unpacks generational trauma, and navigates the complicated emotions that come from growing up in places where vulnerability isn’t always safe. She confronts family wounds, reclaims her body and desires, and pushes back against the shame still attached to women who express themselves boldly. Sex Hysteria isn’t just a statement, it’s a reclaiming of power.
There’s a rawness here, but it’s also intentional. Even the visuals are loaded with meaning. The album cover features Murph in a dramatic ‘60s-style beehive, channeling old-school glam while completely rewriting the rules. It’s vintage on the surface, rebellion underneath.
The album’s rollout began with the sultry new single “Touch Me Like A Gangster,” which dropped on June 6, just days after the album announcement. Jessie gave fans a first live taste of the track at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Show in Miami, a surprising but fitting stage for a song that mixes confidence with seduction.
Also making waves is the lead single “Blue Strips,” which has become Jessie Murph’s highest-charting song to date. Opening the album is “Gucci Mane,” where she steps into full storytelling mode – digging into her past, sharing reflections on her journey, and laying out complicated feelings with brutal honesty.
To bring the new era to life, Jessie is embarking on her most ambitious tour to date. The “Worldwide Hysteria Tour” U.S. leg will kick off July 27 in Phoenix, Arizona, hitting over 30 cities before wrapping up on September 27 in Los Angeles. From there, she’ll take the tour overseas, performing across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand to bring her new album to a global audience.
Sex Hysteria marks a turning point in Jessie Murph’s artistic evolution — a fearless leap into deeper, more vulnerable territory that shows just how far she’s come, and how far she’s willing to go. It’s a project that redefines her voice, not by softening it, but by letting it ring louder than ever. As she takes this new chapter global with the “Worldwide Hysteria Tour,” one thing is clear: Jessie Murph is done holding back.
For fans eager to get their hands on Sex Hysteria, the album is available for pre-order on vinyl and CD, including limited edition signed copies.
