Glyph unleash new single “Defy The Night” with powerful singer debut

Intergalactic power metal band Glyph have returned!

Known for their cosmic themes and thunderous sound, Glyph just released a new version of fan-favorite track “Defy the Night,” featuring their brand-new vocalist, Barbara Blackthorn. The lineup remains stacked with metal veterans: Rob Steinway and Jeff Potts on guitar, Darin Wall holding down the bass, Jeff Black conjuring keys from beyond the stars, and Damien Rainaud providing a crushing backbone on drums.

Now, with Blackthorn at the helm, Glyph is entering its most exciting phase yet.

Listen to “Defy the Night” now—and get ready to join the voyage.

This release marks a significant turning point for the band, who parted ways with their original vocalist in 2024. Since then, they’ve re-recorded several of their classic tracks, with the help of several good friends in the power metal scene. But “Defy the Night” is more than just a rework—it’s a reawakening.

Reflecting on the recording process, Barbara shared some deep personal thoughts about the track:

“When I went to record this, the lyrics hit me in a way that was far more raw and real than they ever had in the past.”

“It dawned on me that it was a story about mustering the courage to leave the familiarity of your home planet as it destructs to blast off into the terrifying unknown, unsure of what exactly awaits you, but knowing that you can’t stay there if you want to survive,” she continued.

“It’s a story about the powerful act of choosing brave escape, of accepting that there may not be anything out there waiting for you besides the vast expanse of space; and yet, even if there is nothing, you deserve even the smallest sliver of that chance of finding real safety over staying on a planet that is burning.”

The single is now streaming on major platforms, giving fans their first taste of what’s to come from the band’s revitalized sound.

And the journey doesn’t stop there. Starting this fall, Glyph will hit the road on an epic U.S. tour alongside symphonic power metal warriors Gloryhammer and the high seas chaos of pirate metal legends Alestorm. It promises to be a spectacle of steel, synths, and interstellar fury—a tour fans of fantasy and metal alike won’t want to miss.
