Passion Pit, the solo project of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Michael Angelakos, has spent the last several weeks bringing a unique stripped-back set of music old and new to New York City’s Deluxx Fluxx Nightclub. During the residency, the twice-weekly performances see Angelakos delve into the stories that have inspired his career and the songs that have earned him platinum radio hits and sold-out shows across the country over the last 15-plus years; he performs re-imaginings of old favorites alongside new unreleased tracks, as well as a few covers thrown in the mix.
Originally slated for an eight-show run, the residency has been extended for one more week, with the final performances on June 4 and 5 before Angelakos heads to Boston’s Brighton Music Hall as well as a handful of festival appearances.
Additionally, Angelakos is set to release Passion Pit’s fifth full-length record, Nine Times Your Torch Song, later this year. The album will be released in phases directly to fans through Angelakos’ Substack.
This latest phase of his career is something of a full circle; Passion Pit has been known and beloved for the bright, shiny production of tracks like “Sleepyhead” and “Carried Away” that deliver heavier topics in something of a colorfully wrapped package, and this recent look behind the curtain peels back some of those layers, allowing fans new and old alike to truly appreciate the iterations and evolution a song goes through during its creation.
